Jesus invites you to be free from the power and penalty of sin in your life: Jesus said, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed”.
Sin has enslaved each one of us in our lives, whether we realize it or not. Jesus said, “whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin”. We are all sinners by our own nature and we can’t seem to stop sinning. We are in bondage and are servants to sinful desires and compulsions, whether we sin openly for everyone to see, or just in our minds and hearts. God gave us the ten commandments listed below, and He said to break one commandment makes you guilty of breaking all, even if it is a small sin hidden in your heart.
List of the Ten Commandments
Some people may claim that they have kept all God’s commandments, but nobody has ever lived a sin-free life, except for Jesus. The Bible states, ‘For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God’. Also, the Bible says, ‘There is none righteous, no, not one’.
The 10 commandments are referred to as ‘The Law’. It is the good and perfect law of God. The law was given to show us our deep sinfullness and that we cannot perfectly obey God’s laws. Honestly, we don’t even come close to God’s standard for perfection. Our best efforts leave us hopeless and guilty before God. We cannot be saved by trying to obey the law. The law was given to lead us to Jesus. Jesus perfectly lived out the law of God on earth and then became a perfect sacrifice for our sins on the cruel cross. He shed his blood to free us from sin’s penalty (eternity in hell) and then Jesus proclaimed just before He died on the cross “It is Finished”. The penalty for our sins and failures had been paid in full. All the sins of the world have now been covered in Christ blood sacrifice forever and the gift of eternal life is now offered to anyone who wants it. The only requirement to receive this gift is to trust the Lord Jesus Christ as your savior. When you trust Jesus as your savior the power of the law to proclaim you as ‘guilty’ is broken. When you accept Jesus, He sends the Holy Spirit to live in your heart. The Holy Spirit will help you to begin to live a new life. You will still struggle with some sins in life, but now you are in Jesus Christ. When God looks upon you, he no longer sees your sin, but He sees the righteousness of Jesus and you are safe in Christ.
Which group am I in ?
Now the people of the world are divided into just 2 groups. Those who have trusted Jesus as their personal Savior and those who have rejected him. Think on these Bible verses, “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God”. ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved’
